As Keswick kicks off 2026, we wanted to share some safe driving resolutions to consider adding to your list this year. Car accidents are a leading cause of injuries nationwide and many are preventable. Making safer driving choices can help protect you, your loved ones, and our community; now that’s a goal we can get behind!
- Eliminate distractions: Put away phones and use hands free features. Never text and drive, if you need to send a text, make sure you find a safe place to pull over before taking out your phone
- Obey speed limits: Speeding increases the severity of injuries from an accident so always be aware of the speed limit and do not exceed it
- Be aware of road/weather conditions: Our territory often has flash flooding, rockslides, and road damage, so be cautious and aware of your surroundings when driving. If weather is too dangerous, stay inside and don’t drive until the weather has cleared
- Always wear a seat belt and use appropriate car seats: Ensure driver and passenger(s) are always safely secured using a seat belt and/or age-appropriate car seat(s)
- Never drive impaired: Utilize a designated driver or coordinate a taxi if you intend to drink
- Maintain your vehicle: Keep up with regular maintenance checks and if something seems off about your vehicle, bring it in to be checked/serviced to prevent any mechanical failures that could lead to accidents
- Scan intersections every time: Never trust a green light. Treat every intersection as a potential hazard. Scan all directions before proceeding through any intersection
- Plan ahead and leave for your destination earlier: Running late is not an excuse for speeding or driving impatiently. Always account for possible traffic when making plans and leave yourself plenty of time
We hope that you add all, or at least some, of these resolutions to your list this year!
